The City of Bay Minette is accepting applications to fill a full-time position of Communications Officer within the City of Bay Minette Police Department.

Summary

An incumbent in this position will perform specialized work duties associated with receiving/processing requests for emergency and non-emergency assistance and dispatching appropriate personnel in an efficient and timely manner. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

(The following duties are normal for this classification.  The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment for this classification.  Other duties may be required and assigned.  Specific duties listed may not be required for all positions within this classification but are determined by the normal requirements for the particular position.)

• Answers multiple telephone lines, including E-911 communications and non-emergency calls; screens and monitors calls from the public and other public safety agencies by radio and telephone; categorizes and prioritizes calls.
• Dispatches appropriate agency personnel to incident locations, including support/backup units and wreckers; transfers/connects non-emergency calls to appropriate department, extension, service, or agency.
• Maintains communications with caller to obtain/verify pertinent information and to calm until assistance arrives; enters emergency call data into computer; facilitates welfare checks on E-911 hang ups.
• Maintains communications with all parties involved in emergency situations; tracks location of responding units; assists emergency personnel in locating addresses; conveys information to/from emergency personnel, general public, public safety agencies, utilities, businesses, and personnel within the department. 
• Monitors multiple radio frequencies to maintain and awareness of activities inside and outside primary jurisdiction.
• Monitors police, fire, and other responding units’ activities at all times to ensure safety of personnel involved, specifically those working accidents, fires, hazardous incidents, and/or dangerous criminal activity.
• Notifies appropriate personnel and/or supervisor of critical situations and weather related information; takes and relays messages to officers, other divisions, local agencies, and/or other employees; places calls for officers.
• Communicates effectively and coherently over law enforcement radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications and calls for service; requests as required: ambulances, wreckers, and utility companies.
  
• Obtains and verifies information and inputs call information into computer for dispatching; reviews, modifies, or corrects call information.
• Performs multiple tasks simultaneously; takes appropriate action when presented with a call or a stressful situation; remains calm under all circumstances.
• Contacts appropriate City departments and/or utility companies to resolve the following problems: street and traffic light outages, downed street signs, roadway debris, and power outages.
• Operates, enters/retrieves data into/from national and state law enforcement (ACJIC/NCIC), in-house computer systems; monitors and assists with entry and retrieval activities; reviews input for accuracy; modifies, locates, maintains, saves, and/or clears files and records within databases; records information manually on entry cards when computer is out of service.
• Performs computer background checks on criminals; responds to inquiries on driver’s licenses, vehicle tags, stolen articles and property, guns, wanted and missing persons, and warrants and summons; provides information from computer database as requested by law enforcement officers and/or other agencies.
• Provides the public with directions and referrals, responds to citizen complaints and concerns, and provides requested information about the community or immediate circumstances/situations. 
• Sends, acknowledges, and logs teletypes and net channels; assigns case and warrant numbers; prepares extra patrol requests and out-of-town advisories.
• Completes, prepares, processes, and/or files forms, legal documents, requests, reports, correspondence, and documentation associated with the daily responsibilities of this position; maintains files and administrative records.
• Performs the following administrative duties: replenishing forms supply, changing computer paper, shredding confidential material, disseminating information to subordinates and various departments, and pulling entry cards for validation.
• Performs the following clerical tasks: sending facsimiles, making photocopies, locating and retrieving telephone numbers and addresses, and researching and contacting business/residence call-outs.
• Attends training courses offered by the department or required by law in order to maintain applicable certifications, to remain abreast of departmental operations, and to promote improved job performance.
• Assists co-workers and/or supervisors in training of new employees.
• Recommends and supports policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of quality services by the Communications Department.
• Incorporates continuous quality improvement principles in daily activities.
• Must be able to maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff, co-workers, managers, and citizens.
• Must meet regular attendance requirements.
• Substitutes for co-workers in temporary absence of same; requests additional personnel as necessary to maintain adequate manpower during shift.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

• High school diploma or successful completion of a GED required.
• Must become certified as a “Telecommunicator” and “Telecommunicator, Dispatcher” with the City of Bay Minette Communications Department.
• Once certified, must possess and maintain a valid ACJIC, NCIC and/or other acceptable telecommunications certification.
• Must become certified as a Communications Training Officer within six (6) months of employment as a Communications Officer.

The City of Bay Minette is seeking applicants for Firefighter (Alabama Firefighter I/II certification is preferred) to perform technical and specialized work functions associated with driving and operating fire apparatus, preparing for and responding to fire, rescue, EMS, and disaster emergency calls, protecting life and property, and supporting fire safety, prevention, and equipment maintenance activities. A Firefighter in this position is required to be on a twenty-four hour call and/or work rotating twenty-four hour shifts, including weekends and holidays. 

Rate of Pay:

• The current salary range for certified Firefighter is $44,233.80 - $68,348.80 per year.
• The current salary range for non-certified Firefighter is $42,859.48 - $66,967.93 per year.
• Hiring salary is the minimum rate of pay, but may be higher based on qualifications.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

• High school diploma or successful completion of a GED required. 
• Must be at least 18 years of age at time of employment.
• Certification as a Firefighter I/II by the Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission is highly preferred.

• Greets and welcomes guests to the course.
• Operates the starter’s area to ensure optimum play and use of the course.
• Advises guests of the course conditions, course rules, any special course conditions, and the expected pace of play.

• Pairs up players as needed.
• Enforces policies, rules, and regulations related to the rules of golf, golf etiquette, and course rules and regulations.
• Verifies equipment and items being taken onto the course to ensure compliance with club rules.
• Prevents players from entering the course beyond the starting tee.
• Rotates players as needed to ensure proper flow of play.
• Inspects player registration receipt and green fee tickets for validity.
• Monitors speed of play as groups make turns.

The City of Bay Minette is accepting applications for the seasonal position of Pool Assistant Manager for the City of Bay Minette Municipal Pool. 

This is a seasonal position working at the Municipal Pool during the summer pool season.  The primary responsibility will be assisting in the management of Municipal Pool operations, to ensure pool patrons and staff members are safe and protected.  Responsibilities also include maintaining a safe and clean environment for patrons and staff to enjoy.  Duties are performed under the general supervision of the Pool Manager, Recreation Director or other designated supervisor.  Supervision is exercised over Lifeguards and Pool Concession Workers.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Pool Manager in the day-to-day operations of the City of Bay Minette Municipal Pool.
• Assists in the management, supervision, and oversight of concession stand staff in the provision of food and drinks for recreational pool activities. 
• Schedules staff to ensure adequate coverage for daily and special events.
• Trains staff on proper procedures and techniques for lifeguarding and pool concession stand operations.
• Inventories equipment needed for staff, facility operation, and concessions stand to ensure adequate provisions for daily and special events.
• Collects daily receipts and funds for delivery to City Hall.
• Manages customer relations with swimming pool patrons and the public.  Trains staff in customer relations practices and techniques to ensure excellent interactions with patrons.
• Coordinates pool parties and other special events for the facility.
• Receipts membership dues, daily admission fees, and concession sales.
• Prepares records on staffing, inventory, maintenance, and other administrative paperwork, as needed.
• Maintains and trains others in maintaining stock for the concessions area.
• Operates cash register.
• Reports any unusual maintenance related issues with the building or equipment to the Pool Manager, Recreation Director, or Custodial Supervisor, as needed.
• Maintains chemicals in the pool.
• Must wear staff uniform while on duty and exhibit behavior appropriate for a city employee.
• Supervises others and participates in daily cleaning assignments.
• Addresses any concerns or issues brought by the public.
• Addresses and takes care of any broken equipment.
• Works a flexible schedule to ensure adequate and efficient pool operations, to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Maintains professional and courteous behavior toward co-workers, pool visitors, the public, and others contacted in the course of the work.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

• HS diploma or successful completion of GED is required.
• One year of work experience in a recreational pool facility preferred, preferably including supervisory experience.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be drug and alcohol free.
• Must be in good physical condition and able to stand for extended periods of time.
• Must be dependable, alert, and enthusiastic.
• Must have a good work ethic, be responsible, courteous, and possess good communication skills.
• Must exhibit a welcoming and pleasant attitude conducive to working with the public and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the general public.
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which may include afternoons/evenings, weekends and holidays. 
• Must have the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Certifications in CPR and First Aid Training preferred.

Rate of Pay:  $15.38 per hour
