Vincent Ulmer Park is located in the Douglasville community of Bay Minette at the end of Shedrick Hardy Parkway.
The park features a baseball field, tennis and basketball courts, swings and playground equipment. To locate the park, take off Alabama 138 onto Shedrick Hardy Parkway. The park is located behind the former school campus.
New playground equipment was installed in 2019 and updates were also made to the bathroom and pavilion space at the park. The upgrades were funded through a Land and Water Conservation grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, with local match and in-kind services provided by the City of Bay Minette and North Baldwin Utilities.
Vincent Ulmer Park is named for the late U.S. Seaman Vincent Lenard Ulmer who died while serving his country. Ulmer served with the U.S. Navy and was aboard the USS Stark in the Persian Gulf when it was attacked by an Iraqi Mirage. Ulmer was one of 37 sailors who died as a result of the attack.
The son of Mary Frances and A.C. Ulmer Sr. of Bay Minette, Ulmer was a 1986 graduate of Baldwin County High School. He enlisted in the Navy soon after graduation and served until his death on May 17, 1987.
